Communication is a Virus

Monday Afternoon
After a group discussion later on monday we found that our ideas weren't original as Paper Girl Leeds gives out free artwork which is our main idea and there is a Student Swap Shop.
So feeling like we have hit a dead end and needed some help we had a talk with Amber and we discussed what route we should take.
From our initial research we chose to look at people and how they waste there time but instead of going down the charity route we looked at how people could enhance there own lives.
We intend to see what things people what to do but never get round to it. If we can come up with a way to motivate people to get up and give it a go instead of been unproductive.
We feel we could make this work a lot more effectively compared to charity because we could
tailor it to our class and ask everyone what they wish they they would like to do.

A lot of these are very similar and they could be catego
rised in areas such as fitness, cooking, language. we d
ecided to look a producing packs and motivational posters for each of these
Thos poster is a simple on about been more active which i feel would relate to skateboarding and sports like that where the better you become the faster you become such as running, cycling, etc. i like this quote and feel it does relate to a lot of people as getting fit and going to the gym is intimidating as most people will be fitter and better than you but you have to start of slow which is what is coming across form the text. This is a motivational poster i have creates relating to learning a new language. It is the most popular language in the world Mandarin Chinese. its a very simple design with the lettering and how the words are said. This poster is just a motivational poster using a quote from Bob Marley. its just a simple quote to draw attention at how you lie your life and if you are satisfied with how you live it. it may be a good poster to make people realise that there are things that you wish you would do and provoke change.
I highlighted the words "Are you satisfied" just to make it more personal and draw attention to the most important words.

We created these Proposal boards for our pitch on Friday.

Feedback from the Presentation.
Ideas
  • Get everyone to bring in stuff one day so we can give it to a charity shop.
  • Get people from college to donate some spare artwork. so we can give it away for free and asked for donations.
  • Hold a clothes swap at college.
  • Advertise things such as giving blood and signing up for organ donation. something different for people to try.
i was happy with the way that the crit went and we got great feedback and felt really positive about the project as before i was a bit optimistic and felt it didn't have much direction. we then decided to come up with come ideas for monday and look into all the different areas we want to look at and do a bit of research.

Monday Morning Group Meeting.

After the weekend we all did research into different areas of charities and giving things to others. i created a questionnaire to find out more about how students spend there time and if they are interested in doing things for charity. We also moved away from helping charities as they are very graphically strong and concentrate on students helping students.
Ideas
  • Have a bin in the college on which you are able to just drop thing into such as unwanted items of clothing, books etc. This is an idea the most don't know where the charity shops are and don't want to go out of there way to drop things off. so if there is a bin they pass every day they may be more inclined to donate things more due to the easiness.
  • Another idea is a Swap Shop where there is an event where students bring clothes to swap or even there work to generate interest for themselves and getting there name out there.
  • A mail shop given to students explaining how quick it is to help people as signing up for organ donation only takes a couple of minutes.
  • Advertise this with posters around college etc.

Communication is a Virus

You are required to produce a graphics response to your chosen task that engages with a specific audience. Your response should consider the context and environment in which you aim for it to be delivered. You should aim to identify, analyse and use existing means of distributions in order to select an appropriate method of communication.

Chosen task
We were given a list of questions and were asked to pick one to concentrate on. Out of the list as a group we chose a few we liked the sound of. get people to try something new, get people to read more, get people to give more, get people to talk to communicate
We decided to think about each of these further before deciding which one we would choose to answer.

Notes
Get people to read more - Getting people to read more could be a clever one to choose. you could have a slogan saying something like "that wasn't so hard was it" just to show how easy reading is. i don't read at all so if i find it engaging then i'm sure a lot of students are similar to me and would benefit from this.

Get people to talk to communicate - This could be something like an anti Facebook campaign to stop people using social networking sites and talk more like we used to. i feel this would be interesting and there are loads more ideas which surround this.

Get people to try something new - getting people to try something new could go many different ways and it could also be a personal guide to students. As i feel we all want to try something but we are to lazy to do it so we could make it motivational.

Get people to give more - Giving money is a big problem for me, i'm asked a lot to give to charity but i just don't have the money to give away. maybe if we come up with a different way of helping people which doesn't involve moneyWe decided on the task get people to give more based on our initial ideas from our research.

We as a group talked about all our ideas for the questions then decided on our favourite one. we chose to look at "Getting people to give more" as we feel we all have this problem and we decided this would be a good one to try and solve.

The Problem: Looking at mainly students and people with little money who can't afford to give to charity.
We intend to: Show people you don't have to give money there are other things you could do. blood/skills/time/clothes/love etc.
Method of delivery: Posters, mailshots, website, advertisements for an actual event.
Audience: Mainly students

Group Work

This is a group brief so we all got put into groups. my Group consists of Mitch, Kirsty H, Claudia and Steph. We all listed our skills and then came up with our strongest skills as a group.

Group Skills
-Ideas
-Hand made
-Typography
-Illustration
-Organisation
-Writing
-Primary research
-Screen printing
-Illustrator/Photoshop

We now have to create a poster to show our skills within Graphic Design.
Team Work
Ideas
Yearbook where we have each member and there skills.
Recipe. how to make the perfect team Food/Chemistry
Illustrate the groups skills through image

Poster 2
After the first poster we were told to neaten the original or change what we did. We as a group decided to change the idea and have it a bookshelf with all the different groups skills.

Poster 3
We were then given 15 minutes to make a poster to sell ourselves as graphic designers to clients.
This is the list of words we decided to describe ourselves.
Innovative
Motivated
Talented
Creative
Trendsetter
Ultimate
Fresh
Reliable
Outside the box
Mix of talents
5 creative genius's
