For this animation i planned to bounce the "O" like a ball and the path that it produced would form the letter "B" from its trail. I first attempted this using a white shape which follows the ball path revealing the black path i made earlier as the ball travels. This worked to the extent but looked very unprofessional.
My next plan was to make a pointed shape which will followed the ball attempting to get the effect of a the black line actually looking like it is following the ball.
So i made pointed shape the same colour as the composition and will move it in the same path as the green ball.
At first it looked promising that it would work.
Then hitting a corner the shape didn't work the constant change of the balls path made this method obsolete.
I then tried out creating a mask of the path and editing the ancor points so it followed the ball.
Deleting a ancor point at a certian ponit of the sequence deleted it for good instead of disappearing when i wanted it to. To solve this when i needed to delete an ancor point i duplicated the layer and made one with the deleted ancor points change to 0 opacity and make the next one appear. so i have to do this in stages for it to work.
Half way through i realised that the line was changing shape and i was getting lumps where i didn't want them. it took a long time to get this far but it just isn't the way to go at all.
Here is a video of moving the layer masks so you can get and idea of how it looked.
